Children See Children Do

I had actually posted a short video clip on this on parent's role modeling to our children. But I find it compelling to do it again now after reading this short article sent by an anonymous sender.

"Children come into this world as helpless and dependent individuals with overwhelming needs. Those infants who enter our world to loving and responsible parents, who have planned to have children and can't wait to nurture them, are indeed among the fortunate individuals to arrive to planet earth. I am not an expert on this topic and have no idea on the statistics regarding the fortunate individuals described above. However, my gut tells me that the percentage entering the worldwide population under these circumstances is far too low.

In order to be employed at many jobs in most industrialized nations, there are licensing tests and certificates issued to prove that you are qualified to perform the skills and functions of the profession. In the United States you need to attend schools and pass board tests to become a doctor, lawyer, accountant, stock broker, realtor, electrician, hairdresser, optician as well as a multitude of different jobs. This is done to protect the consumer from shoddy advice or services.

However, there are absolutely no training requirements, boards, tests or certifications for becoming a parent. Individuals seem to learn most of their parenting skills from their own parent's example. Thus, we can only hope as a society that the examples being set are good ones.

Since parents have the greatest early influence on a child's vocabulary; early skill levels; exposure to learning; attitude; values; etc., children are constantly absorbing the examples set by their parents. Thus, a lesson to be learned is that your children watch and see everything you are doing in their presence. Your actions, good or bad will more than likely have a profound influence on your children's behavior during the course of their lives.
Most young children prior to being exposed to the outside forces of adolescence seem to have a great desire to please their parents. They want to do what their parents do, and say what their parents say. They yearn for positive recognition for their actions from their parents and older siblings. Thus, if parents are setting good examples and children mimic those good examples, a win-win situation is in the making.

As I was growing up as a young child, my Dad wasn't one to shower his children with lots of hugs and affection. Mom always compensated with an overabundance of affection, nurturing, and time invested teaching her children. Her affection was genuine and there wasn't any sacrifice she wouldn't make for her children. She set an excellent example of motherhood. However, Dad also contributed generously to the future success and happiness of his children. By his own example he provided his children with the priceless values of the Greatest Generation. Hard work, honesty, loyalty, generosity and being a person you could always count on! Thus, short on words and affection but long on setting a solid example of a caring father.

My own example above was not an anomaly. The majority of my closest friends seemed to grow up in similar households. They learned from their parents just as their parents learned from their grandparents. This powerful chain of learning by example can probably go back for generations if you were able to research it properly.

Now I admit that this lesson to be learned this week does not break any new ground in the advancement of psychology. However, we all need to be reminded from time to time that our behavior as parents has a profound impact on the lives of our children. We need to be conscious of our own behavior and examples we are setting in our households. Are you passing down the precious values of the Greatest Generation, like hard work, honesty, loyalty and generosity? Are you the role model and the type of individual that you would like your children to grow up and become? Would you want your children to be the same type of parent that you have been?"

Parents. Daddy. Mummy. Do you see?

32 Week Pregnant

This stage of our Little Precious' life will bring mummy-to-be walking waddly. This is because the pregnancy hormone, relaxin, will cause the softening of mummy's hip joints (pelvic ligaments and cervix).

Another challenge during this time onwards is to find a relaxing posture that you find comfortable for a good night sleep. Pregnant women should sleep in position that they find most comfortable, except that you are in a high-risk pregnancy where you should check with your care provider.

Now... let's look at our baby's progress. Weighing 3 pounds, 12 ounces, our little precious Prince/Princess is now 38 cm/ 15-1/4 in from crown-to-rumps. "Wow! This is a considerable growth for my baby" you may say. It's actually due to the increase of fat stores in our baby's body and muscle. And by now his/her head can move from side-to-side, and is taking up much of the space in his/her mummy's tummy.

One thing that we need to take note during this time is the early 'breaking of water', as we laymen will put it. Scientifically, it is called Premature Rupture of Membranes (PROM). Though only happens to a very small percentage of pregnant mummy, anyway daddy & mummy should look at this seriously. Even if the water breaks early, you may feel a slow leaking. However, if you find an increase in discharge or a sudden bout of incontinence, then immediate check from your practitioner will be advisable to determine whether your water has broken or not.

Choice or Chance

When we meet the right person to love, when we're at the right place at the right time, that's chance.

When you meet someone you're attracted to, that's not a choice. That's chance.

Being caught up in a moment (and there are a lot of couples who get together because of this) is not a choice. That's also a chance.

The difference is what happens afterwards.

When will you take that infatuation, that crush, that mind-blowing attraction to the next level? That's when all sanity goes back, you sit down and contemplate whether you want to make this into a concrete relationship or just a fling.

If you decide to love a person, even with his faults, that's not a chance. That's choice.

When you choose to be with a person, no matter what, that's choice.

Even if you know there are many people out there who are more attractive, smarter, and richer than your mate, and yet, you decide to love your mate just the same, that's choice.

Infatuation, crushes, and attraction come to us by chance. But true love that lasts is truly a choice.

A choice that we make.

Fate brings you together, but it's still up to you to make it happen.

I believe that soulmates do exist, that there is truly someone made for you. But it's still up to you to make the choice if you're going to do something about it or not.

We may meet our soulmates by chance, but loving and staying with our soulmate is still a choice we have to make.

We came to the world not by finding someone perfect to love, BUT to learn how to love an imperfect person perfectly.

Have U made ur choice? or are U still wondering?

Bonus? Got ar...?

Today here in office, something is up everyone's sleeves... The talk is everywhere. Everybody is whispering to each other at every corner i go.

"Hmmm... what's going on with everyone here 2day??" i thought. Then i found out that 2day is the day where everyone's waiting for. BONUS DAY.
I bet everybody in this world work their arse off the whole year just waiting for this BIG day to come... I am one of these people. So when the day is nearing the corner, everybody will ask "When is it gonna be 'The Day'? How many months our boss gonna give us?"

BUT

What if this year our good bosses don't declare any bonus hor..? what if our boss say our company's performance no good last year to declare any bonus for us, slaves, here hor..? or what if everyone else got their bonuses except urself hor..? or what if ur boss tell u straight into ur face saying "Daniel, i m sorry. Ur performance was not very satisfactory last year n there's no bonus for u."

Those r the questions that popped out suddenly in my little brain the minute i know that 2day is the BIG DAY.

The Sky Is Blue

These are the photo i took when i was on board the flight back from Bangkok the other day. Couldn't help it but to snap a photo of it...

See how our Mother Nature has to offer... A beautiful sky, cotton of clouds and a bright healthy sun. They are so very beautiful.

I'm A Frequent Flyer

"Ya... rite!!!" That's gonna be the 1st response i'll get from all my friends... "Only fly once in a while n U wanna call urself a frequent flyer!! Damn thick face lar U!! Ptui...!!!" hahaha

Yeah, my frens. I just came back from a trip to Bangkok (the capital of Thailand) For those who dunno where's this Bangkok, it's located on both side of the Chao Phraya River. Okay, okay... i m exaggerating here Who dunno Bangkok, rite... it's where all the 'happenings' happen hehehe How can anyone dunno Bangkok...

But i didn't go there for the 'happenings'... went there to work No fair! Everyone there is having fun n i gotto work "Not Fair! Not Fair! Not Fair!"

Anyway, the food there is just marvelous. But on the day we landed in Bangkok, we ended up eating sushi at the Fuji restaurant. Err...if im not mistaken, we ate sushi there lor hehehe Then after all the raw fish, squids n shrimps, we had dessert. Green tea ice-cream with red bean. "Hmmm...that's new" i thought (U might think this is wan 'sum pat' fella who never tasted green tea ice-cream with red bean hahaha) n it tastes good... yummy...

So after all the yummy sushi and ice-cream, work gotto start anyway. No running away from it. Then it's just work, work n still work for the past few days for me. And i was so excited yesterday when it's time to come home. "Finally it's time to go home... yeah!!!" i thought. And U know what... i was chauffeur driven from our office to the airport.

Mann..! Felt like a boss, i tell u... U know lar we 'small ciku' where got chance to get chauffeur driven by company car wan... so yesterday felt like a CEO lor.. (then people see say "wow... look at that handsome guy sitting in that car chauffeur driven everywhere he goes. So young n oledi become a boss to a multi national company") vomit. vomit. (why har this Daniel so very the perasan wan...!!??? )

Here i am, after being a "CEO" for a short 30 minutes n now back to my 'one-leg-kick' work .. hahahaha

Baby Blues...

What'd U Do..?

Ever received an email in ur inbox with a fantastic title n U dunno what to do but to just open to check it out..? "Oh, well", U say, "not gonna hurt to open this mail n have a look at it"

Then what happen...? The header itself will tell U that this is a wonderful story n it's true. So U gotto read on to find out how true it is. "Hmmm... true story. What might have happen to the poor ol'sender?" U wonder. U read on...

Indeed it was a very good 'true' story n U read on to find out what's next (U know lar... it's Friday, quite free sitting in office hehehehe) What do U know... U fell into the sender's trap now...!!

In the end of the so-called 'true' story, there's a message saying that "U Must Send This To At Least 10 People......" (or ELSE!!! ~that means U get bad luck always!!~) or there's a line saying that "Please Forward This To Your Friends... send to 1 - 10 U'll get 1 week of luck, send to 11 - 20 U'll get 1 mth of luck ..." and all those sort of bull-shit.

What'd U do..? Would U just ignore and delete the mail... or U r the kind that just forward the mail (just in case ma... hehe) or U'll definitely forward to as many people as possible so that U get as many weeks of "luck" as possible?

31 Week Pregnant

At 31-week, weighing around 3 pounds 5 ounces and measuring about 14 1/2 inches, our little baby's eyes may now starting to track moving objects and when he blinks in response to light or dark (hmmm... i wonder what's inside his mummy's tummy can he see moving object hor... hehehe Can someone tell me ar.... )

Mummy will start to feel the eagerness for the pregnancy to end and wish that your baby is born. But not to worry if you don't have that kind of eagerness because for some mummy bonding to her baby will only occur after he/she is born.

Hmmm... now time is gonna go reaalllyyyyy ssllooowwww........

Torturous Call To The Technical Support

I was having a short chat with one of my colleague, WM, just now on the way to a meeting (u know ler... gotto "pat" (ké poh) a bit n see what's the updated thing in the company hehehe)

Me: Wei... leng cai. Wassup, fren.
WM: (holding onto the phone) ~sigh~ Tis is the 3rd time I m calling the technical helpdesk liow.
Me: Y? What happen? (ké poh must b fully wan ma hahahaha)
WM: My laptop lor... giving me problem for the past few days. So I called the helpdesk n they said oledi fixed. But, see now! I hv to restart my machine n cannot log in.

I don't know about other people, but personally, I find it torturous to call the helpdesk to get help of any sort that happen to your computer. If u r not a technical or a "computer" person and the first thing that u'll do when u've got some (and I mean very little, puny, minor or small) technical hiccup is to call the "helpdesk".

But what happen when u call them? U'll definitely get the answering machine "Welcome to the %$#&^# helpdesk. Please be advised that your call will be monitored for ......" and other long long crap before u can get another automatic message that says "For &*^&% please Press 1. For %$%$# please Press 2 ..."

Come on lar!!! We call the help desk bcos we r not a "computer" person who can resolve our technical problem. Why on earth giving us that sort of technical thing to choose when we have our own problem unresolved!!? Why not blardy pass the blardy call to a HUMAN technical person to kow tim our ma-fun stuff leh..!!! Why must go thru all the "Press tis, Press tat" thingy where u people know very well that we blardy want to speak to a HUMAN...

Okay... finally u get to speak to one of the HUMAN technical support fella n u told him/her ur problem (n u think "finally... a human to solve my problem. No more stupid answering machine") Then what happen...

"I am sorry, Sir. We'll need to escalate your issue to the Higher Level Support. Can I get your contact so that the Higher Level Support technical person can get in touch with you" they'll tell u."

Haiya!!! This is adding to my high blood pressure, mann!!! Why make me wait with ur answering machine n then pour out my problem to a human technical person who in the end telling me that he can't settle my problem bcos he's so stoopeed that he dunno what happen to ur machine!!!

No wonder people nowadays got so many 'Job Related Health Problem' hahahahahahaha

p.s. later i gotto go see doctor to get my blood pressure checked
