Crocs, Is It Safe?

It’s like the latest trend in town now that almost everyone, young and old are wearing this type of shoe. If you still don’t know, it is the type of soft-soled clogs (known by the name of the most popular brand, Crocs)

Comes with assorted colors, I have friends telling me that it is pretty comfortable to be worn. And convenient too..?? (but how convenient, I don’t know lar …)

But recently, I have heard that there was a case where a child’s toe was set aflame suddenly while wearing this soft-soled clogs. I shrugged it off as nonsensical. I thought, how a shoe can be hazardous to people.? If you tell me that the child’s toe is injured while wearing this clogs, then I might belief it.

Now, I have stumbled upon an article written by the Associated Press writer, Sarah Karush.

In the article, it mentioned that children with Croc-clad foot got caught in an escalator and as a result, the child’s toe was badly injured. “…as far away as Singapore and Japan, entrapments occur because of two of the biggest selling points of shoes like Crocs: their flexibility and grip.”

So the selling points of these clogs is now their ‘killer’ eh… There are also reports that the shoes get caught in the “teeth” at the bottom or top of the escalator, or in the crack between the steps and the side of the escalator.

As these clogs are commonly worn by young children, so you can imagine who the victims are.

So, be careful when buying shoes for your cute and lovely children. It might cause your child his/her toe(s)…

Patti Page does ‘em proud…

“How much is that doggie in the window?? The one with the waggly tail…

How much is that doggie in the window? I do hope that doggie’s for sale.”

“I must take a trip to California…and leave my poor sweetheart alone. If he has a dog, he won’t be lonesome and the doggie will have a good home.”

“I don’t want a bunny or a kittie …I don’t want a parrot that squalks …I don’t want a bowl of little fishies …He can’t take a goldfish for walks.”

“How much is that doggie in the window? The one with the waggly tail…How much is that doggie in the window? I do hope that doggie’s for sale.”

“I read in the papers there are robbers … With flashlights that shine in the dark…My love needs a doggie to protect him and scare them away with one bark!!” (ARF!!)

“How much is that doggie in the window? The one with the waggly tail…How much is that doggie in the window? I do hope that doggie’s for sale.”

I Dreamed Again

I have been sleeping like a baby (actually like ‘pig’ lar hehe) Sleeping Piggysince the last time I dreamed of my brother until this morning.

Still remember that I woke up and it was still 12.50am. My wife was still tossing and turning on her side of her bed while his ‘piggy’ husband snoring his way for the past 2 hours.. haha…

Then, I dreamed again… I dreamed that I was in my own car (dunno whether it’s moving or not) and it was raining. Well, that’s not the end of the story (oops.. I mean dream hehe).

My car roof leaked..!!! That gave me the shock of my life. How could that have happened!!? It was right in the middle of the car roof.

Well, it is said that to see and hear rain falling symbolizes forgiveness and grace (hmmm… I have that.. hehe), Sleepy Piggyand watching the rain from a window symbolizes that spiritual ideas and insights are being brought to my awareness. It also indicates fortune and love. (I wonder it does cover watching the rain inside my own car.. hahaha)

I Dreamed Of My Brother Last Night

Haiya…… I had a dream again last night… dreamed of my younger brother.

Old people used to say that to see your brother in the dream serve to remind us of our relationship with our brother. It can also serve to remind us of someone in our life that has certain characteristics/behaviour as our brother.

The “brother” in your dream could also symbolizes a close friend or buddy. It also has a religious implications and thus represents spiritual issues.

Hmmm… in that case, I’ll have lots of brothers bcos I all all my male friends/colleagues as ‘tai ko’ (meaning brother) hahaha…

Dreamed Of Getting Bald

When I was happily enjoying my stay at the Strawferry Land during the Merdeka weekend, I dreamed of me getting BALD!!!

I woke up in the morning having cold sweat… and this balding thingy is still lingering in my mind till now. Man…!!!

So I decided to look into this dream of mine and see what’s it signifying… hehehe

And I found a short explanation on my ‘balding dream’ which says that to dream about me going bald suggests a lack of self-esteem or worries about getting older?

It also says that baldness symbolizes humility, purity and personal sacrifice.

It also suggests that I am at a stage in life where I am confident in fully exposing myself (not indecently, of course)

21 Week Pregnant

21-weeks.jpg Yvonne is due for her monthly prenatal checkup next week. At above the 20th week, her doctor would probably started measuring the height of your uterus, the fundal height, since it now appears above the pubic bone.

Lately she has been telling me that baby is “having a war” in her tummy. Yvonne could feel baby moving inside her and also at times pushing on the side of her womb.

So I figure weighing at about 13 to 14 ounces, and measuring 17.5 centimeters from crown-to-rump and as baby is now busy putting fat onto those bones, it is not unusual that baby is doing “gymnastics” inside her mummy’s womb. (may be our baby is preparing to be the next olympic-rings.jpg Olympic Gymnas Gold medalist… hehehe)

When You Are 20 Weeks Pregnant

It is indeed wonderful that we are halfway through Yvonne’s 1st pregnancy, and she has also regained some, not all, of her energy and appetite.

At this stage people will begin to notice that you are pregnant. This is because your uterus pushes your abdomen out at the belly button. pregnant_6.jpg If you have been keeping it quietly, your little secret is out. Unless you are like me going out telling every Tom, Dick and Harry that Yvonne is pregnant as soon as we know about it.. ;p

As your abdomen starts to ’stretch out’, your abdomen may start to itch a bit. It is also possible to hear the baby’s heartbeat now if your partner places his ear against your lower abdomen. You might not be able to hear it right away. If you can, then you are so very lucky, you can go buy lottery hahaaha (hmmm…. this I gotto try hehe). Anyway, if you can’t hear it right away try the other side and you’ll definitely hear a fast, tiny, little rhythmic beat of your baby’s heart. 20-weeks.jpg

Your baby is now 16cm from crown to rump weighing about 10 ounces. Pretty excited knowing that one little life is growing healthy inside her mother’s womb, and coming to meet the world very soon.

19 Weeks Pregnant

october-2007.jpg4th October, 2007. There will be exactly 5 months from today to my little baby’s expected date of birth (4th March 2008). Time really flies from the day I first discovered that Yvonne is pregnant. baby23.jpg When we went for the first check up. When we saw our baby for the first time through ultra sound… the heart beat…

Soon there will be the baby-crying.jpg first cry, first smile, baby-crying_1.jpg first tantrum, babys-first-step.jpg first little step. I can’t wait to see all those little firsts from her.

During week-19, heartburn is more likely to occur as the uterus pushes up against mommy’s stomach. Nutrients will reach the baby more efficiently as the movement of food through the digestive tract has slowed. It is advisable to eat several smaller meals throughout the day if you are troubled by heartburn. Avoid eating before bed.

At this stage, 19-weeks.jpg the baby is 15cm from crown to rump, and weighing about 8 ounces. Permanent teeth buds are forming behind the milk teeth buds. The reproductive organs are developing rapidly.

As for baby girl, the uterus and baby boy, the testes are clearly visible at this stage.

So, in short, our little is getting big..

What Should Be My Baby’s Name?

Baby Friends and relatives have been asking me what name I am gonna give my newborn baby. Have been putting some thoughts into this “Naming My Baby” topic.

There are many names that seem to be a bit too common, like David, Jason, Steven (sorry to all Davids, Jasons and Stevens.. Ur names are used bcos they just happen to popped up in my mind… hehehe)

So I asked myself, “…then, what name I am gonna give my child?”. Not too common name? Like? How about Snow White, Cinderella, Amidalla if my baby is a girl,star-wars.jpg or Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi if my baby is a boy.. hahahaha ;p (ok, just kidding there). Of course I’ll not name my child Obi Wan Kenobi, Cinderella or any characters in the Star Wars, or any other fairy tales.

But would anyone name their children with a name when the name is called out, it sounds funny? Have you heard of anyone with a name like this? I have.

I had a fried in my primary school who is called Michael (a very famous name when I was still schooling). But problem appeared when our teacher was taking attendance.

Teacher: Mahendran?

Mahendran: Yes…

Teacher: Michael Tan?

And before Michael can response, the whole class burst into laughter. It sounded as though our teacher is asking my dear friend to “sell egg”. (Michael Tan would sound like ‘mai-kai-tan’ if you are a Cantonese). Now I understand why Mahendran hated Michael so much… hahahaha.

There was another time during my secondary school when my friend told me about. It happened during one of those Monday assembly. The headmaster announced that there was a schoolboy who has been caught for theft by the Discipline teacher. And this boy is to be caned publicly. But when the headmaster called out the boy’s name, the whole school was laughing its lungs out. Guess what’s the boy’s name… CCB (if u understand what it means) hahaha

names.jpgI am not gonna name my child something like CCB, man… hahaha. Not even ‘Kang Kong’ too hahaha…

What name will you give your children? Mine to share? nice, beautiful and funny ones too…

Me: haha… that’s a good 1. May be I’ll tell our baby the whole thing. You know, “once upon a time, in a kingdom far far away, daddy and mommy fell in love (finally). Then after don’t know how many donkey years ’still falling in love’, we finally decided to get married (hahaha). Then on that night, daddy and mommy have sex, and nine months later you are out”. Week 18th Of Pregnancy

Week 18You might be thinking that it’s weird that it was just a couple of days ago that I’ve posted the progress for week-17, and now that I am writing things on week-18. Sorry, my friend… forgive me if I have not posted my wife’s progress timely.

Anyway, let’s us look into the week-18 development for little baby in my wife’s tummy. Today is the 122nd day that my little baby has been inside Yvonne. So, what’s happening during this week of my little baby’s life?

Little toenails are now beginning to grow on her little tiny toes… This is so cute…

Starting this week, mom-to-be will be able to feel the first movement of your little precious life in you. This is called the “quickening”. This early movement may feel like soft tapping, or what they called “butterflies” just above the pubic bone. But as this is Yvonne’s first pregnancy, she may not feel the movement as early as in successive pregnancies. Most likely our little baby will make him/herself known in the next few months.

Week 17th Of Pregnancy

17_weeks.jpg From now going forward, the growth and refinement of our baby’s system and internal organs will occur. At 12 centimeters crown to rump, your baby is large enough to give you a good kick in the belly.

Depending on heredity, baby’s ears stand out from his or her head and unique finger prints and toe prints are developing.

Baby’s first bowel movement, Meconium, is beginning to collect in the colon. He/she is actually digesting swallowed amniotic fluid. And at this time, fat deposits will appear under your baby’s skin and this will help to regulate his/her temperature after birth.

Circulation of blood is now established and the umbilical cord lengthens and thickens in response to the rapidly growing needs of your baby. The placenta and fetus are now almost equal in size.

So many things are happening at once in preparation for our baby for the outside world.

A piece of advise for all mom-to-be. It is advisable that you sleep the left side of your body, as this will help increase the blood flow to your baby and reduce your swollen ankles. One rationale is that it takes the weight of the baby off of the main vein to your lower body.

One very common thing that happens to most mom-to-be is to deal with difficulty to sleep. Do you have such ‘problem’? My wife does.

But not to fret. There are ways to help you with this difficulty. Mom-to-be is advised to increase your intake of vitamin-B-rich foods, pork-kidney-and-liver.jpgsuch as liver, kidney, fish etc. Pork Kidney with Chinese Wine Daily exercise is also a good practice, but try avoid exercising close to bedtime.

Having a pre-bedtime snack will help keep blood-sugar levels up while you sleep and drink some warm milk before heading to bed. Some will have the problem of frequent visit to the bathroom at night, therefore please limit fluids intake after dinner. And one very important thing to remember is to restrict your intake of caffeinated products such as coffee, tea, colas or chocolate. No alcohol and cigarette. No Smoking

Pan Mee For Lunch

Pan MeeI belief that everybody (Chinese, I mean) must have eaten the famous Pan Mee. For my friends who don’t know what on earth is this Pan Mee. It’s not actually made out of a pan. haha

Pan mee is just a flour base pasta that we, Chinese, make to be eaten like other soup based noodles. Ok, nowadays you can find the ‘kon low’ ones.. hehe

Anyway, my wife called me just now after lunch to tell me that she has ‘da pao’ Pan Mee for lunch today.

Wife: Wei… (this time she called “Wei”. I wonder where the affectionate “Lao kong” goes… hmmm)

Wife: Very busy ar..? Busy surfing the net hor…. hahaha

Me: Ya lor… Busy as usual. Surf net… hehe

Wife: Just now I went da pao Pan mee. You know what that fello put in the Pan Mee ar?

Me: Err… don’t know wor. What har?? Not nice ar? Or so very the nice? hehehe

Wife: He put vege, pork meat ball and sea weed oh… so weird…

Me: Har??? Sea weed!!??

Wife: Ya lor… you know, the japanese seaweed. That fellow put into the soup and cook the Pan mee wor… you say strange or not..?

Me: So, how har… nice ar..? hahaha

Wife: Wa lau eh… I also don’t know how to eat oh… how to tell baby what I am eating har? This time not our baby don’t want to eat lor. I myself don’t want to eat oh…

Me: hahahaha…

So, my friend. How to eat Pan Mee with seaweed? What do you normally find in a bowl of Pan Mee? Japanese seeweed? How about some abalone… hahahaha

One Baby Too Many??

baby12.jpg Babies… Aren’t they beautiful..?

I don’t know whether you call it ridiculous or crazy… but One Baby Too Many? Well, you should be happy and joyous…

I read this article about this Australian woman who gave birth to a twin instead of a single baby after receiving an IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization). And she’s now suing her doctor…

Is she lunatic or what..!!! Is she not happy that after trying to conceive for so long and finally she gets a pair of twins. Isn’t that God’s will that you are ‘given’ a pair of twins?twin-babies.jpg

Week 16 Of Pregnancy

Today is the 111th day of my wife’s pregnancy.

But during this time, due to altered levels of hormones, which may cause the mucous membranes in mommy’s nose to swell. So, nasal congestion and nosebleeds are an annoying side effect of pregnancy. Increased blood volume and softening of the tissues also contributes to this.

It is understood that Vitamin C deficiency may cause nosebleeds, so an increase in your consumption of vitamin-C-rich foods may help. Use nose drops, other than saline, is not advisable unless recommended by your care provider.

The Baby:
Weighing about three ounces, baby one is now 12 centimeters crown to rump. Baby’s head is now held high, and limb movements occur in a coordinated fashion. The eyes have come closer together so that they face forward, and the baby begins to blink.

Tiny toenails are beginning to form. We can now see from an ultrasound the sight of baby sucking his or her thumb. And that’s not all you may see: Gender is now recognizable, if you have an extroverted fetus. But this we do not wish to see yet…

No Appetite For Food

Yvonne has been feeling nausea and loathing for food since the beginning. So, the self-claimed ‘experienced’ people that we met advised her that the nausea will go away very fast. Some even said that she will regain her appetite very soon… (but how soon..?)

Being all-inquisitive and ‘kepoh chee’ by nature, I go “hunting” and searching for more information on this matter on the web. Opps… sorry, not the spider web hahaha…

So from the internet, as I have posted here that the nausea will begin to subside beginning the 12th week. And she’ll be in a the second trimester which sometimes referred to as the “honeymoon of pregnancy.” I was quite relieve then knowing that Yvonne’s nausea will soon faded into a memory. However, this relieve of mine is short lived.

Yesterday, after lunch, she called to tell me that she had bought a packet of curry meehon as she was ’slightly’ craving for it. Below is what had been spoken between us on the phone:

Yvonne: Lao kong (meaning hubby as she always call me…), guess what happen just now.
Me
: (being always blur blur…) Err… what…?? hehe
Yvonne
: I ta-pao curry mee for lunch just now. Ate 2 mouthful and your baby “don’t allow” me to eat somemore… Now I want to vomit liow. How har?
Me
: Hahaha… Just now you didn’t ask baby want to eat what meh…haha.. I think baby don’t like eating spicy food lar… may be tomorrow you go buy not spicy food… hahaha
Yvonne
: Har..?!! Like that also can one ar??!! hahaha (then we went on laughing it over again… hahaha)

That was yesterday…
So, this morning before I leave our house to work, I told her to ”ask baby want to eat what” first before she goes to ta-pao lunch today. hahaha

Right after lunch just now Yvonne called. Not realizing that yesterday’s “incident” will replay today.

Me: Harlooo…
Yvonne: Lao kong… your baby today don’t want to eat again lar. Yesterday you said baby don’t like spicy food, so I went to buy pork mee today. But after 2 mouth again baby don’t let me eat some more.
Me: Har..? Again ar… hahaha. Cham lor, spicy don’t like. No spicy also don’t want ar… hahaha
Yvonne
: Ya lor… your baby very naughty lar hahaha…
Me
: Ya lor… Why so naughty one hor hehe..
Yvonne
: (belched) You see… Only eat 2 mouthful and I “errr!!!” already
Me
: Hahaha… never mind, you put the pork mee aside. Mana tau later baby want to eat time, you susah want to find pork mee oh… hahahahaha.

The Second Trimester

mommy-to-be will wake up in the morning feeling that “something is missing“. It says there it’s the nausea will be gone as you, mommy-to-be, going into the second trimester. (But it doesn’t seem to be that way happening to my wife. She’s still having her ‘morning sickness’ or nausea, though not as bad as before.)As you go into the second trimester, you’ll feel that your long lost energy returns and you can now eat the meal that you felt revolted when you were in your first trimester.

Note that it may be depressing that you’ll feel huge and all your beautiful clothes could not fit now. But not to worry as no one will know that you are pregnant. Yet… Further, your uterus is not yet big enough to cause the uncomfortable symptoms that may happen in the third trimester.
You might be curious why have you gained your energy back on this second trimester. It is because the arduous work of your baby’s development is mostly complete. And by the 14th week, the baby is four and a half inches long and weighs about 45 grams. And he/she is quite active. Mommy-to-be could probably feel these movements as a fluttering sensation beginning between the 18th to the 22nd week.
At about twenty weeks, your uterus will extend beyond the belly button. An ultrasound can clearly identify gender. If you are carrying a girl, she already has six million eggs in her ovaries. By birth, the amount of eggs will have decreased to one-sixth this amount.

By the 22nd week, your baby weighs nearly one pound, and measures 10 and one-half inches head to toe. The eyebrows and eyelashes begin to grow. And the teeny tiny pair of ears can actually tune in to mommy’s conversations.

Periodically, some women may feel their uterus tightening. These contractions, called Braxton Hicks, are harmless. You will probably continue to experience them throughout your pregnancy as your body prepares itself for birth.

While Braxton Hicks are completely normal, if they occur more than four times an hour, call your practitioner. Differentiating between Braxton Hicks and the real thing is sometimes difficult. It’s a smart idea to familiarize yourself with the signs of preterm labor so your practitioner can use medical means to delay labor until a safe time.

By 24 weeks, rapid eye movement has begun. Does this mean your baby is dreaming of past lives? Weighing in at one pound, six ounces, and measuring 11 and one-fourth inches, head to toe, your baby now has a five to twenty percent chance of survival if born today. By the time your fetus weighs two pounds, odds of survival soar to seventy percent, although preemies are more susceptible to a host of problems.

Because of an increase in maternal estrogen and progesterone, pregnant women are more susceptible to dental problems. Don’t miss out on your six month cleaning. Although most practitioners believe that dental X-rays are safe, it’s probably best to delay them, if possible, until after the birth.

Between weeks 24 to 28, your baby is at his or her most active. More sensitive to the environment, your baby can respond to touch now and will jump in reaction to a loud noise, such as the pan of roast beef you just dropped.

Ya, you might ask. Why so clumsy? Water retention and loosening of joints are to blame. And forgetfulness can be attributed to hormonal changes.

By week 28, you’ve reached the end of the second trimester. Your baby measures 13 inches head to toe and weighs two pounds and four ounces. His/her eyelids, which have been fused shut, begin to open. From this point forward, your baby will spend much time observing the womb.

The second trimester has been a great journey. Between your baby’s daily exercise routine and your burgeoning belly, you have tangible evidence that you are, indeed, carrying life inside of you. It’s hard to believe that in just a little over two and a half months, you will be holding that evidence in your arms!
